Collision Warning Cone Light

Collision Warning Cone Light

The emergency collision warning light with collision sensor (EWL-C) was designed primarily for short term emergency deployments, where a compact design makes them highly portable with a profile that fits into a traffic cone nose aperture as small as 3.2cm for additional security and ease of use (no accessories required).

This is achieved by the use of 2 X AA batteries that allow a slimline design to be achieved, we appreciate duration is something of a compromise with just 2 AA batteries but the EWL series light was designed as a compact 360 degree emergency warning light for short duration deployments. Highly efficient LED’s will still provide 4-5 hours of operation enough for an emergency deployment and with AA batteries been so easily and cheaply accessible replacement will not be an issue.

In normal operation they will synchronise and flash in unison (asynchronously) with a steady 1 flash per second (all units flash together), however an impact will trigger the accelerometer chip which will wirelessly communicate with all other units in the area resulting in a rapid flash pattern with all LEDs flashing in unison.

Resetting automatically after 10 seconds this rapid flash feature can be seen at distance by operatives and supervisors who will be duly informed that a perimeter has been impacted or breached in some fashion

On construction sites we see this a means of throwing a warning light barricade around working groups, anything intruding and impacting a cone mounted light will trigger a bright and effective warning light on all the other units.  With fixing apertures in the twin supporting arms, lights can be strung together, potentially mixing standard EWL’s with collision warning models, an impact on one pulling the tied sequence over and triggering a warning that way but without the overhead of having every light a collision warning model.

During normal operation they provide an asynchronous 1 flash per second warning light with 360 degree visibility, ideal for identifying exclusion zones or working areas, with visibility of over 300m the lights are highly observable at distance.

The rapid flashing provides warning to both personnel working on the ground as well as plant operators that they have impacted a barricade which now might need inspection for damage or the barricade reset as it may have been pushed out of alignment.

For the emergency services, it provides both that warning beacon function in a highly compact form, if the collision warning version is not appropriate or needed we have the standard EWL model available in with both blue LED’s for the emergency services only, as well as yellow for general road and construction safety.

Slim Design

We wanted these to fit within a traffic cone aperture of 3.2cm which reduces the need for accessories, customers have long complained that accessory replacement is a draw on resources so the less the better.

Twin arms with apertures allow lamps to be hung from signage, cable ties can be utilised to discourage unathorised removal and the twin arms are designed to clip around the recessed neck of most traffic cones offering a robust fixing option without separate accessories.

Usage Cases

  • Emergency services barricades road closures
  • Road and construction working areas & exclusion zones
  • Soft ground warning indicator
  • Services warning indicator – power or other infrastructure where an operator does hit a traffic cone mounted light they can see the rapid warning flash and investigate for damage
  • Site supervisors – with a light visible at over 300m a site supervisor can be alerted from afar if they see rapid flashing, plant operators may not notice or choose not to notice collisions with infrastructure, with the EWL there’s a warning indication that a zone has been breached.

Robust

A commercial specification these will withstand rough handing and are made of durable ABS body and shockproof acrylic lens, they are activated by twisting the main body which makes handling and activation simple especially with hand protection worn.

IP67 rated they are weather resistant.

Traditional Collision Warning Cone Lamps

We have a traditional traffic cone warning lamp that has a built in collision/warning chip that signals a portable body worn signal light or traffic wand with both warning lights and 90 decibel alarm.

Built into traditional traffic cone lamps designed for extended duration these are partnered with portable PPE lights that alert the wearer that a barricade has been compromised giving the operator time to take avoiding action or inspect the road taper etc.  Read more…
