Description
Sequential Blue Traffic Cone Lamp Single.
Sequential road taper cone lamp for the emergency services, often referred to as a synchro lamp, it uses infrared technology to signal the next lamp in sequence to create a cascade light effect on road tapers and lane merges where the road lamps flash in sequence away from oncoming drivers.
Lamps will determine their own sequence after 10 to15 seconds after been pushed down onto a traffic cone which activates the power switch, signalling the next road lamp in sequence to flash, this continues down the line creating the desired sequential yellow chase flashing pattern.
A 1W Blue LED provides illumination, with a flash rate of 60 per minute at 30CD Brightness (L7Class) and a steady on mode between flashes of 2CD (L3 Class). These lamps provide a constant light output as soon as powered on with the high flash followed by the low intensity background light between flashes.
The synch road lamp uses a single standard 4R25 battery (not supplied) high specification batteries can provide up to 1000 hours of operational running time with performance characteristics similar to other brands of traffic cone barrier lamps (subject to battery quality).
Certified to EN12352:2006+AC2009 standard.
Positioning & Powering On
Position with an offset of +-10 degrees, the angle positions the lamps in line of sight for oncoming vehicles and enables the IR sensors to establish the flashing sequence, signalling the next in line until the synchro cascade effect is fully achieved.
Pushing the police synchro lamp down onto the traffic cone will depress the power switch on the lamp, powering it on, where it will then begin to identify other lamps in the taper and establish the front to back flashing sequence.
Within 15-20 seconds of deployment all the lamps will have established connections with their nearest counterparts and a sequential light pattern establishes itself.
An indicator light on the rear of the cone lamp’s casing flashes when a signal is being received from a lamp in front, this visual indicator helps quickly identify lamps that are wrongly positioned, obstructed or have become inoperable due to damage.
Users have commented that there is a high level of interoperability between this road lamp and other leading brands, particularly where the IR signal sender is similarly positioned i.e. lamps sharing a common design.
It is however recommended to deploy cone lamps in sequence by manufacturer type, should necessity require a blended deployment, feedback has suggested best results are achieved when the Knightkit road lamp is positioned to the rear of a string of other brand sync lamps.
Practical Design
With an uncomplicated and familiar design, police officers can quickly replace batteries with a minimum of delay.
The battery housing is a popular ‘wrap around design’ that pushes through the centre of the traffic cone lamp securely holding the battery in place easier to handle, less likely to freeze or clog with dirt.
The loop handle can also be pushed forward to engage with the lipped top of many traffic cones and further secure the lamp, relying not just on gravity alone to secure it to a traffic cone.
The battery connecting points will accept a battery whichever way it is presented as long as the springs go in first!.
Serviceable Components
The body of the cone lamp is made from robust easy to clean, bright yellow Polyethylene, the lens is made from durable high impact polycarbonate.
Both the lens and the battery housing cover can be changed in the event of damage or wear.
